Learn from OWA member Brian – a self-taught furniture maker – how to keep you woodworking tools sharp.

There is a lot of technical information available about sharpening media, equipment and methodologies. Brian’s approach will be different. He will focus, more fundamentally, on why we should positively embrace sharpening as a gateway skill and address some of the reasons why woodworkers, especially beginners, are often frustrated.

In his entertaining and matter of fact style, Brian will focus on fundamentals and lay out six practical strategies that you can employ that will not only help you sharpen better, but help you become a better woodworker.

Brian Greene is a member of the Ottawa Woodworkers Association, a writer, and a self-taught furniture maker. He has been teaching, demonstrating and writing about sharpening for about fifteen years. He has published several articles on sharpening and contributed a chapter to Norman Pirollo’s 2019 book: Woodworking: From Design to Making. Brian has been with Lee Valley Tools since 2005 and currently works as Subject Matter Expert at Veritas Tools.
