OTL Art Up!

January 31 @ 1:00 pm3:00 pm
OTL is launching a NEW & FREE series focused on local artists making cool things!

We’re launching our first OTL ART UP! event on Saturday, January 31st from 1pm to 3pm at the Ottawa Tool Library! Our featured artist will be Rob Stevenson whose work includes the design and build of unique electric guitars. Three of his amazing instruments will be on display in our space throughout the month of February. Rob will be there on January 31st to discuss his guitars and maybe play a few chords. Hope you can make it!

Artist Statement:

Guitars have been in the background early growing up in the 70’s and then they made themselves pop into the foreground accidentally through their pronounced sound capabilities. The instrument basically knocking on my front door and saying hello is a good metaphor. I let them in and that’s how the trouble started. Being a visual artist, I saw many examples of them in the art world with Picasso and Murray Favro. Then musicians I idolized made them personal by their own hands literally (playing style) and figuratively (pickups, guitar body art). i.e. Adrian Belew, Joe Strummer, Joe Satriani… I then took to making my own. Colour, wood, and electronics became the palette. Also repurposing parts came into the picture. They are fun and I consider them having their own voices, whatever that means is up to you. It all boils down to experimentation. – Rob

Note:

This is a FREE event, but please register so we know how much coffee to brew and cookies to get. 😉
